Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur, a mixology master, or simply taking your first steps into this captivating world, Barlist is your ultimate companion. Discover legendary bars, explore unique distilleries, dive into the secrets of mixology, and most importantly- create, shape, and share your very own spirit & bar list with the world.
Barlist isn’t just an app. It’s the key to unlock a universe of discovery, taste, and connection.
In 2025, Barlist launched with a simple but ambitious vision. Spirits enthusiasts had long relied on scattered sources to find information about whisky, mezcal, gin, rum, and cocktails. Books, blogs, and travel forums each offered fragments, but no single place existed to unify history, culture, and discovery. Barlist set out to change this by creating a hub that could connect distilleries, bars, cocktails, and the people behind them into one global narrative.
Building the World’s Largest Spirits Database
The foundation of Barlist is its growing database, which has expanded rapidly since its launch. By the close of 2024, the platform cataloged more than 5,000 spirits. Today, that number has grown to an extraordinary 30,000, making Barlist one of the most comprehensive collections in the digital spirits world. Each entry goes far beyond tasting notes. Spirits are profiled with their origin, distillery details, production methods, and cultural background. From Scotch single malts in the Highlands to small batch agave spirits in Oaxaca, Barlist ensures that every bottle tells a story.
Spotlight on Distilleries
Distilleries are central to this vision. The app currently features more than 7,400 distilleries worldwide, offering users unprecedented insight into how spirits are made. From historic producers such as Jameson’s Midleton Distillery in County Cork to modern innovators like Chichibu Distillery in Japan, Barlist highlights both tradition and innovation. Users can explore a distillery’s founding date, its regional influences, and the master distillers who shape its character.
Bars as Cultural Anchors
Bars form the other half of the experience. For many enthusiasts, spirits are discovered not only in bottles but in the places where they are poured and shared. Barlist currently includes 500 of the world’s most influential bars, from historic institutions to contemporary trendsetters. A visitor to Galway’s Crane Bar can read about its role in community and music, while a traveler in Tokyo’s Bar Benfiddich can explore its reputation for absinthe and botanical cocktails.
Documenting Cocktail Heritage
Cocktail culture is another dimension of discovery. Barlist now features more than 550 cocktails, each carefully documented with its history and evolution. Classics such as the Old Fashioned and the Martinez appear alongside contemporary creations from award-winning mixologists. These entries capture the way drinks evolve through time, reflecting the tastes of each generation.
Personalized Journeys for Every User
In August 2025, Barlist introduced a major update called Personalized Journeys. This feature allows users to build collections of their favorite spirits, track bars they plan to visit, and receive editorial recommendations tailored to their interests. A whisky drinker drawn to Islay’s peat will be guided toward distilleries such as Ardbeg or Laphroaig, while a mezcal enthusiast may be introduced to single village producers in Oaxaca.
From Research to Real World Experience
The scale of the database means that Barlist can serve both as an educational resource and as a tool for travel and lifestyle. Someone planning a trip to Scotland can use the app to explore distilleries along the Speyside trail, while a visitor to New York can discover the city’s leading cocktail bars. By linking historical knowledge with real world experiences, Barlist bridges the gap between research and practice.
A Guide for Enthusiasts and Professionals
At its core, Barlist positions itself not only as a platform for enthusiasts but also as a guide for industry professionals. Bartenders can use the app to explore cocktail origins, distributors can learn about emerging producers, and travelers can map out authentic experiences. The aim is to make the world of spirits easier to navigate without losing the richness that gives it meaning.
Mapping Spirits Culture in the Digital Age
For Barlist readers, the journey is about context, connection, and culture. With 30,000 spirits, 7,400 distilleries, 500 iconic bars, and 550 cocktails, the app is building the largest connected archive of drinks culture in the digital age. By offering not just information but perspective, Barlist turns spirits into stories and exploration into a guided experience.
