By the time Gohar Gasparyan stepped onto the World Cocktail Championship stage in 2022, Armenia was not expected to win.
Not because of a lack of talent, but because the country’s cocktail culture was still finding its footing. Unlike established markets, where bartending is shaped by decades of accumulated technique, Armenia’s scene was newer, more fluid, and still defining its own standards. That context makes her result more telling than it first appears.
Her early development did not follow a traditional path. Without a long-established system to rely on, technique had to be learned through repetition and exposure rather than inheritance. Precision became less of a stylistic choice and more of a necessity, a way to create consistency in an environment where standards were still forming.
IBA World Cocktail Champion, 2022
In 2022, Gasparyan represented Armenia at the IBA World Cocktail Championship, organised by the International Bartenders Association.
Competing against bartenders from more than sixty countries, she won first place in the Bartender’s Choice category, earning the title IBA World Cocktail Champion 2022.
The drink itself was not built to dominate through complexity. It held its structure. Each element was measured, aligned, and repeatable, a composition that reflected control rather than excess. More importantly, the win placed Armenia into a competitive landscape where it had previously been less visible.
A Method Formed Without a Template

Gasparyan’s approach is defined by construction rather than tradition.
Her cocktails focus on clarity, with ingredients used with intent and unnecessary elements removed. This creates a style where balance becomes the central reference point, not because it is inherited, but because it has to be established.
Repetition plays a central role in that process. By refining drinks through multiple iterations, variation is reduced and consistency becomes instinctive. Temperature, dilution, and proportion are treated as structural components, shaping the drink beyond what is immediately visible.
A Scene Still in Motion
Yerevan’s cocktail landscape continues to evolve, shaped by venues such as The Club Yerevan and Dargett Craft Beer Brewery, where modern beverage programs are gradually redefining expectations.
Within that movement, Gasparyan’s role is not only as a competitor, but as part of a broader shift. Her progression reflects a moment where Armenian bartending is moving from development into recognition.
Precision as a Starting Point
What distinguishes her trajectory is not continuity, but direction. In a system still taking shape, her work shows how precision can function as a starting point rather than a refinement.
