History
The origins of Hödl Hof Original Himbeere Geist trace back to the long-standing tradition of fruit distillation in Austria, particularly in Styria, a region famed for its fertile soils and ideal climate for cultivating various fruits. The distillery itself has served the community for years, dedicated to producing high-quality spirits that celebrate local agricultural produce. As fruit schnapps gained popularity, the distillation of berry spirits became an essential craft, and Hödl Hof embraced this legacy by establishing itself as a purveyor of exceptional Himbeere Geist. Over the years, the distillery has achieved recognition not only in Austria but also internationally, garnering respect for its adherence to traditional methods and commitment to excellence in flavor.
Fabrication Process
The creation of Hödl Hof Original Himbeere Geist begins with the careful selection of fresh, ripe raspberries, which are harvested at their peak to ensure optimal flavor and aroma. Once collected, the raspberries undergo a meticulous washing process before being gently crushed to release their juices. The crushed fruit is then fermented, allowing the sugars to convert to alcohol naturally. After fermentation, the mash is double distilled, first using a traditional 300-liter rough-rim boiler, followed by the use of a 200-liter fine-fired boiler. This two-step distillation process ensures that the resulting spirit retains the essence of the raspberries while achieving a high alcohol content of 38% ABV. The careful control of temperature and time during distillation allows for the fruit’s aromatic qualities to be preserved, while the final spirit is bottled without any additives, showcasing the natural flavors.
