Foursquare Distillery’s journey began in 1996 when it was established by the Seale family, who have deep-rooted ties to rum production dating back to the early 1900s. The family’s legacy in the spirits industry is marked by its long-standing tradition of quality, stemming from R.L. Seale & Co. Ltd, a business founded in the 1920s. Upon acquiring the former sugar plantation at Four Roads, the Seales transformed the estate into a modern distillery that would honor their heritage while innovating within the spirits landscape. Since its inception, Foursquare has achieved significant milestones, expanding its product range and enhancing production techniques. The distillery combines copper pot stills with twin column Coffey stills for distillation, enabling them to create a diverse range of expressions, each showcasing the intricate character of Barbados rum. Over the years, the distillery has launched several limited editions that have become collector’s items, as well as participating in notable rum festivals, further raising its profile in the global spirits market. Another notable event in Foursquare’s history was the introduction of their Exceptional Cask Selection, which allows connoisseurs to experience aged rums that highlight the innovative aging processes used at the distillery. Historically recognized as a newcomer in the industry, Foursquare has swiftly established itself as a leader among rum producers in Barbados and abroad, with plans to continue pioneering the future of rum through heritage and innovation.
